The Dirt, the American Society of Landscape Architects’ blog, recently profiled “A Conversation with the National Mall Design Competition Winners,” a public event hosted by the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. OLIN Partner Skip Graffam and WEISS/MANFREDI Partner Marion Weiss spoke at the event on behalf of the project team’s four design leaders, which includes OLIN Partner Hallie Boyce and WEISS/MANFREDI Partner Michael Manfredi, sharing their vision for rejuvenating the Washington Monument Grounds at Sylvan Theater. Skip described the team’s plan to create a high performance landscape in which new plantings and improved pedestrian paths will reconnect the southern Monument Grounds and Tidal Basin to the National Mall. The plan will create new spaces and experiences for the millions of annual visitors and the revamped Sylvan Theater will accommodate a wide variety of events and performances framed by stunning views of the iconic Washington Monument.
