NextFab Studio, a high-tech workshop and prototyping center in Philadelphia that OLIN works with to develop complex project models, is featuring an interview with Partner and Director of Technology Chris Hanley on its website. At OLIN, Chris leverages his 14 years of experience in both landscape architecture and the technology sector to evaluate and implement emergent design technologies, develop multidisciplinary project management processes and oversee the studio’s digital design research initiatives.

When asked about his favorite tool NextFab Studio has to offer, Chris said, “The laser cutter, without a doubt. Our members can take a digital file to NextFab, quickly cut it out, take it back to the team, and immediately begin making design decisions based on the model.” He continues, “It helps in our design process, because more time and energy can be focused on the ‘why’ of a design idea, rather than ‘how will I get this model made?’ We can look at the design model for what it is and make changes accordingly.”
