Hallie Boyce, Partner, RLA, ASLA

Hallie Boyce Partner, RLA, ASLA

Hallie’s former studies in modern dance and development work for the National Gallery of Art fostered an interest in the potential for art to inspire the design of culturally rich landscapes that are beautiful, socially responsive and environmentally sensitive. She has led numerous projects from concept through construction, including the design of a movie studio campus in Los Angeles; a children’s garden for Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; and California Memorial Stadium and Law and Business Connection Building at University of California Berkeley. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia and a BA in Art History from Bucknell University. Hallie has taught and lectured at Temple University and the University of British Columbia, and has served as a guest juror for the University of Virginia, University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and the Potomac/Maryland ASLA Awards.

Partner/Director of Research, RLA, ASLA

Skip Graffam Partner/Director of Research, RLA, ASLA

Skip directs research at OLIN that spans the areas of design, digital technologies, materials, construction methodologies, and professional practice. His particular areas of interest include the use of natural processes, such as phytoremediation, in environmental restoration and as design expressions; the reconsideration of cities as integrated entities, using large-scale flexible frameworks to improve environmental, social, economic, and aesthetic sustainability; and the expanded use of GIS, digital visualization/animation, and information modeling in the design and construction process. Skip’s efforts to infuse design with research support OLIN’s desire to expand the role and influence of landscape architecture, believing that the profession should serve as the leader in improving the interrelationship of human settlements and the environment, particularly in urban contexts. Skip holds degrees in architecture and landscape architecture from the University of Virginia.

Chris Hanley Partner/Director of Technology

Chris visions and employs a variety of technologies and practices at OLIN, such as evaluating and implementing emergent design technologies, developing project management processes, and overseeing training programs. He has over ten years experience in both the landscape architecture profession and the technology sector, enabling him to identify fresh solutions that continually evolve OLIN’s digital capabilities and the processes used to represent and communicate the studio’s design excellence. Prior to joining OLIN, Chris held positions as a Land Planner, Landscape Designer, AutoCAD manager, Project Manager, as well as an Information Technology consultant and Senior Systems Administrator. He holds a BS in Landscape Architecture, as well as post graduate diplomas in both Network Engineering and Information Systems.

Richard Newton, Partner, RLA, RIBA, ASLA

Richard Newton Partner, RLA, RIBA, ASLA

Richard is fascinated by the ability of designed landscapes to reconnect, express, and teach about the natural systems that sustain them. Richard’s background in building architecture is his foundation of understanding how nonliving systems and landscape can seamlessly coexist to form humane public spaces, particularly in academic settings. His experience includes multiple projects at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia; Hermann Park in Houston; a master plan for Hudson Yards in New York; and Brancusi Ensemble in Romania. He is currently designing a new landscape for the School of the Environment at Duke University in Durham, NC. Richard obtained a Diploma in Architecture from Manchester Metropolitan University in England and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Graduate School of Fine Arts, University of Pennsylvania, where he also has taught design studios and is a regularly invited critic.
