Community-driven Vision Plan for the 2000+ acre Sepulveda Basin in the San Fernando Valley. The Sepulveda Basin Vision Plan (Vision Plan) reimagines the future of the more than 2,000–acre basin as a rich nature-based ‘central park’ for the San Fernando Valley.
With communities adjacent to the basin experiencing a high need for parks space, a high exposure to urban heat island, and limited access to natural areas, the basin already serves as a hub for a multitude of local recreational activities as well as a biodiversity hot-spot, and a haven for reduced urban heat island. The Vision Plan builds on these existing assets and takes the basin forward to become an even greater asset for the surrounding communities and the region as a whole.
The Vision Plan involves a nearly two-year community-based process after which there will be proposed designs to be implemented in phases, maximizing opportunities and access for recreational uses and users; enhance the natural habitat, wildlife areas, and water quality throughout the basin, the LA River, and it’s tributaries; and strengthening the basin’s flood risk mitigation capacity.
To achieve the robust objectives of the Vision Plan, OLIN, as a part of the consultant team, is studying several categories of existing conditions as a part of a robust inventory and analysis. This is happening concurrently with the far reaching community and stakeholder engagement which will be ongoing through early 2024.
