Tom LaBonge Headworks Water Complex

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's Headworks Park is located north of Griffith Park, Mount Sinai Cemetery, and Forest Lawn Cemetery. The site’s adjacency to the Los Angeles River and the eastern terminus of the San Fernando Basin has made it an important site in Los Angeles water history: serving as a water source, an infiltration site, and now, following the construction of the East and West Reservoirs and the proposed LADWP Water Quality Lab, a site for potable water storage and testing. The vision for the site celebrates this history of water and LADWP, revealing the geometry of the reservoirs and creating formal gardens on top of the reservoirs using native forbs and shrubs within a grid of olive trees matched to the reservoir column grid below.
