The National Veterans Memorial and Museum is a monument to honor the fallen and recognize the service and sacrifice made of all veterans in every branch of the military. As an extension of this purpose the landscape is intended to provide a natural sanctuary for remembrance and reflection. The central component of the design being a memorial grove, a ceremonial stand of trees, a sacred space for rest and meditation surrounded by a series of outdoor rooms designed for memorial displays and commemoration. A tree-lined pedestrian walk encompasses this landscape while gradually rising to a height overlooking the Scioto River and downtown Columbus beyond. This project is being implemented out of a larger master plan for the Scioto Peninsula in Columbus, developed by MKSK and OLIN.
